Europe! and other updates.

Hey everyone!

Hope all is well! Winter has been long, but good! I skated a lot and curled a bit! Here is a cool picture of me curling, for your enjoyment.

Spring is in the air! :) I dunno about you, but I'm real ready to start planting gardens and riding bikes for a few months. Got an exciting announcement to make!

I'm going to Europe! Yahoo!! Super excited to head over the pond for a few weeks to play some shows. Gonna be real great. Get to showcase at FOCUS Wales (which will be AWESOME), play a few shows with local rad dude Poor Nameless Boy in Europe, and meet a bunch of awesome people! I'm also gonna be networking at The Great Escape, so if you're around Brighton during the conference, let's chill!

While I was booking flights, I started to notice that there were real great flights using St. John's, NL as a stopover, and I decided to touch down on The Rock for a few days for the first time since 2014. CANNOT WAIT to play for the fine people of St. John's as well. If you're in the city and want details on the house show, drop me a line and I can give you more details!

So, as with anything worth making, it took us a bit longer to finish recording than was expecting! We finally finished tracking in February, and then had some technical difficulties with the file transfer to Michael, our producer. This caused a bit of a delay, but he will be mixing the album THIS MONTH! Can't wait to have final masters to listen to :). Big thanks to Keiran Semple and Jason Plumb over at the AMAZING Studio One as well as the one and only Byron Chambers for helping us finish recording off!

I'm gonna be a jerk though and make everyone wait likely until Spring 2018 to release it. So far away!! Oiy... The plan is to spend the summer working hard to create complementary content for the release for everyone to enjoy. It'll be worth it.. I promise!

Until then, take it easy everyone.. Maybe see you at a show? Gonna be a good few months!

Happy New Years!

Happy holidays everyone! Apologies for the delay in posting an update over the last few months. Lots of stuff has been going on so here's a quick update:

In November, Nick played at a Movember Fundrasier/Awareness event as well as the CJTR 15th Anniversary show with Library Voices, DGS Samurai Champs, Blake Berglund and Belle Plaine, and Megan Nash.

We made the cover of the Prairie Dog!!

We made the cover of the Prairie Dog!!

December was also a fun month for shows, as Nick shared the stage with Bears in Hazenmore, Megan Nash, and Stacy Tinant for the "Bears and Nash Holiday Bash". There was really great attendance at all shows so thanks to all for coming out!

Nick has also been regularly singing the anthem at Regina Pats games. They are REALLY REALLY GOOD THIS YEAR YOU GUYZZ!

Nick has a couple of really fun gigs coming up in January! First off, he'll be making the short drive to Moose Jaw a few times this month starting with the Rogers Hometown Hockey event on Saturday, January 7 and Sunday, January 8th. He'll be playing a set at noon both days and sharing the stage with Blake Berglund and Chris Henderson. Had a great time playing the event with Rah Rah and Mise En Scene back in 2015 in Regina (see below)! The second gig will be a rager at Chillers Brew Pub with Bears in Hazenmore on Saturday, January 28th.. Come crush some brews with us!

So far, so good with respects to recording! Our new friend and producer Michael Wojewoda was in Regina from November 23-December 4th to cut a record with us at the amazing Studio One. We weren't expecting the album to turn into what it has, and so although completing about 14 days of work in 8 days at the studio, we are only about 85% done the album at the moment.

Hard at work cutting gold hits.

Hard at work cutting gold hits.

After taking a break in December to regroup and reorganize and enjoy the holidays, we're hoping to polish off the remaining parts that need to be finished in the next couple of weeks. Gonna hold off on saying much more than that because the entire experience has been amazing and we want to make sure we're doing a good job of sharing the experience! There will be more posts in the future!

Cheers to all! Hope 2017 is amazing :

Big Announcement! - Recording news

Hope everyone has harvested their gardens and pickled their cucumbers and pulled out their sweaters. The sweet crisp scent of autumn is in the air. The Deputies and I are hunkering down to get to work on a very exciting project.

We have been preparing this album since last year, and we couldn't be more excited to get in the studio this fall/winter and start cranking out the hits.

This time around, we are going to be collaborating with Juno and Polaris winning producer, engineer, and mixer MICHAEL PHILLIP WOJEWODA to help us take our new songs to new sonic heights. Michael has produced and co-produced some of the most amazing Canadian albums over the last few decades including Buffy Sainte-Marie's Polaris winning "Power in the Blood" and Amelia Curran's very excellent Juno nominated "They Promised You Mercy". He has also produced and engineered multiple albums by the Barenaked Ladies including "Gordon" and "Born on a Pirate Ship", which have been major influences on our band's songwriting and have served as very important musical inspirations for us. Michael has a knack for observing and capturing the essence of the artists that he works with, and we are very excited to depart on our next musical journey with him in the pilot seat.

We are also excited to be capturing the sound and recording the album at STUDIO ONE RECORDING in Regina, SK. The studio is located in the beautiful CBC building in Wascana Park, and has been the setting for the recording of Andy Shauf's Polaris winning "The Party" and Colter Wall's critically acclaimed "Imaginary Appalachia" amongst other great recordings. It seems fitting that we would record next-door to the CBC Saskatchewan studios, who have played a HUGE role in supporting and fostering our career to date.

It would be remiss of me to mention all of these exciting new developments without acknowledging the CRITICAL support of two organizations who have committed funding to this project.

First, CREATIVE SASKATCHEWAN has pledged to help fund this project. They have been unbelievably committed to helping us succeed over the last few years, and their funding has made this project a reality, so from the bottom of our Prairie hearts, we'd like to thank you thank you thank you for the support.

Second, RAWLCO RADIO for the 10K20 award last year. We have already thanked Rawlco in a previous blog post, but I think another 50 "thank yous" are in order for both the funding and for the patience in waiting until we could set this project up over a year after we received funding. This funding was the spark that lit the fire for the entire project. Thank you for your support and your steadfast commitment to Saskatchewan music.

You guys might have to sit tight for a while after we finish recording. We hope to take our time and spend a lot of effort on carefully planning our album release campaign. This is a very important album for us, and we couldn't be happier to have all of our fans along for the ride.

See you guys in the studio:)

It's been awhile....

Hey buds. Hope your spring is going well! Sorry for the delay in updates... So much stuff going on.. Yeesh, where to begin!!

Western and Eastern Canadian Tours

Nick had the privilege of hitting the road acoustically with a couple of really great Prairie acts. Colter Wall (Swift Current,SK) and I played some really great shows in Ontario and Quebec. They were a great time and we had some great shows!

A week after the end of that tour, we had a really great EP release show at The Artesian in Regina with our buds in Bears in Hazenmore (Regina, SK). It was a really great evening, and we played some other shows in Manitoba and Alberta with Eagle Lake Owls (Winnipeg, MB), who are one of my favourite up and coming bands in Canada. Those shows were also great, but left Nick pretty dang tired after a whirlwind four months of recording and preparation!

We really, really appreciated the financial help of Creative Saskatchewan in helping make those dates possible. Thanks a million! below are some photos from the shows!

We'll be playing FULL BAND sets at the Long Days Night Music Festival in Swift Current with The Matinee on Sunday, June 26 and we'll be performing at Regina Folk Festival in Regina on August 5-7, 2016. We are SO PUMPED for these shows, and we're gonna be in some great company so come hang out!

We plan to take it easy with shows over the summer, as we prepare to head into the studio to use our Rawlco 10K20 grant to record our next album this autumn. Can't wait to share details about that in the future :)

Thanks so much for the support! It's greatly appreciated :):) Happy summer everyone!!
